The Single Hung window uses a surface-mounted cam-action lock to secure the sash in the closed position. Most sizes use one lock in the center of the checkrail. Larger size windows use two locks spread left and right on the checkrail.

The bottom sash can be raised and lowered for ventilation and can be tilted inward for cleaning or other purposes. A pair of finger-release sash tilt latches located on the checkrail can be disengaged from the side jamb tracks, allowing the top of the sash to be tilted inward. Once tilted to 90°, the sash can be removed from the window.
Tilt-Sash InstructionsAlways use caution when tilting and or removing the sash. They can be heavy and require the support of the user.
The balance shoe functions to engage the sash pivot tabs located near the bottom of each side of the sash. The tabs interlock with the pivot on the shoes. When the sash is tilted inward, the balance shoe has a locking-when-tilted feature that helps to stabilize the sash. The user must carefully support the tilted sash at all times.
When tilted, the sash can be removed from the window by lifting the pivoted end from the shoes.
The Single Hung uses a spring balance system with sash pivot balance shoes. The upper portion of the balance is concealed behind a vinyl balance cover. The lower portion is not seen when the sash is fully engaged in the jamb track.
Available in two styles, these window-opening control devices must be applied after the window is installed. The Return Jamb mount style has a 90° mounting flange to apply to a deep jamb. The Trim Face mount style is designed to apply to the face of the trim. Trim design must accommodate the dimensions of the hardware design.
